Jobcentre Compliance officer interview, Why?

I have received a letter from Jobcentre plus inviting me to attend an office interview with a compliance officer and to take with me ID and bank statements etc.

It doesnt say why but I am an absolute wreck because among other physical and mental health issues I suffer from Agoraphobia and just cannot face the interview in the office. I even requested a home medical when I filled in my esa application form last year but in the end they granted me the support group without a medical.

Will they allow me a home interview and how should I go about asking for this? what rights do I have for it?

I dont know why they are requesting to see me, its exactly a year ago that I filled in my esa application and I was expecting a renewal form now or maybe they will send a renewal form as well. I was never informed of how long the esa had been granted for and I was never asked for bank statements and for some reason they seem to have me down as contribution esa but I havent worked in years.

Only thing I have is an isa but its under 6k and I recently applied for some £1 per month savings accounts in order to have enough monthly direct debits to keep my Halifax Reward account going, could this have triggered an interview off?

I'm so worried about it and the reason why I am having to have one, should I ask them why or wont they tell me anyway? it just says in one section of the letter

what you must do now
it is essential that you attend this interview and provide the documents requested in this letter. this interview has been arranged because your circumstances may have changed and we need to ensure your payments are correct. when you claimed benefit you agreed to tell us immeadiately if the circumstances relating to our benefit entitlement changed.

Sometimes these interviews are triggered randomly, sometimes because DWP believe there has been a change in circumstances and sometimes because the claimant has been reported for some perceived breach of the rules. I am afraid that there is no way of us knowinmg what has triggered this in your case, but it is reassuring that you have not been asked to attend an 'interview under caution' which is a more serious situation.

You should contact the number on the letter (I assume there is one?) and tell them that you are not able to leave your house. I think I have heard of these being undertaken in the claimant's home but I do not know whether you are 'entitled' to this or whether it is up to DWP to decide.

Everyone transferred from IB will have been put onto contributary ESA and, as you know, this is not dependent on your income (other than an occupational pension) or savings. However, it is most important that you do not just ignore this as it is unlikely to go away on its own.

I think that some of our members have been through this process so I hope that someone will be able to tell you what to expect.

Thankyou,

Yes I did find that information using the search link and went through them but none of it says anything about rights to having a home interview rather than an in office interview. I posted in case anyone knows anything about that or has any experiences of requesting a home interview for this kind of interviews.

Hi LiB,

We have heard from members where Customer Compliance Officers have carried out interviews in the home, so it is possible.

You should contact them ASAP to try and arrange this.
