A chance to fight for disabled people's mobility. was created by Jim Allison BSc, Inst LE, MBIM; MA (Consumer Protection & Social Welfare Law)
A consultation on the walking distance benchmark to qualify for help with mobility needs a strong, uncompromising response.

The government has announced a new consultation on the personal independence payment (PIP) – the disability benefit that replaces disability living allowance (DLA). After telling us for months that the consultations on PIP were more extensive than any previous consultation and that it had really listened, the government announced its intention to reconsult on the mobility component of the new benefit. The political and legal context tells us that this is about whether the bar has been set too high for the mobility criteria, as many disability organisations have argued.

We need to pause to consider three issues: the background to this decision, the timing of the proposed consultation and, most importantly, what this development means for disabled people.

Would it be wise then for forum members to write to their M P regarding this issue?

Replied by Jim Allison BSc, Inst LE, MBIM; MA (Consumer Protection & Social Welfare Law) on topic A chance to fight for disabled people's mobility.
It would do harm, but whether it would affect the new consultation process is debatable.

The loss of PIP (new claimants or those being reassessed when transferring from DLA) will likely mean that many in the WRAg will not be able to do volunteer or permitted work. I will have that problem if I lose my mobility allowance. A Catch-22 if it happens.

How can people submit comments for the new consultation please?
