TOPIC: Cpn wont help with form and I feel overwhelmed

Cpn wont help with form and I feel overwhelmed 1 week 6 days ago #232265

Hi everyone.
I just received my dreaded DLA to PIP change over letter. I suffer from Bipolar, have autistic traits and have physical illnesses such arthritis and fibromyalgia, aswell as struggling with severe depression, severe anxiety and have a history of self harm/suicidal thoughts. I text my cpn, as I don't call anyone and asked for help ringing them to start the process. She refused saying they don't do that now and I'll have to ring and fill it in myself. She said cab can help but I've heard they aren't great at getting awards nd they are useless in my town from what I've heard. Plus I rarely even leave the house. I'm so overwhelmed I honestly feel like giving up. My cpn is fairly new to me and she isn't as easy to talk to as my old one. This has really made me doubt if I can even work with her. I asked for support. Anyway, the reason I'm here is I wondered if you knew of anyone I could see or any place that does home visits to help me. I'm in the Derbyshire area and near Chesterfield. Thank you.

Seels

You could try doing an internet search for "volunteer help" with your postcode or town.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Seels

Most CPN's have been told to stop helping because of the complexity of the issues, however, check with your CPN whether your local mental health team has a member of staff who deals specifically with benefits issues. (She may not know if she is new). They do in the area where I live and I certainly know of two others in different parts of the country who do.

Apparently there is no longer anyone there to do that. There used to be but finances no longer facilitated it.
I think im more upset at her lack of understanding and not being willing to bring forward our appointment to be there when I tried to ring them, especially given how ill I've been.
I'm terrified of losing the benefit. I can't afford to. But it's more about the fact that we are made to feel this way and jump through hoops.

Do you have a MH advocacy service in your area? They might know of a local service which can help, or have a volunteer advocate who could make the phone call for you? A local MIND service?

I don't know the rules in England (& nor does Mind exist in Scotland) but there is a legal requirement to provide independent MH advocacy and many now have a benefits worker. Also, my council provides a benefits advice service - you could check yours.

From my understanding health professionals up here have been told not to help with forms, partly because of complexity, but also accountability/interfering with therapeutic relationship if benefit not awarded based on form.

Just noticed....Chesterfield Law Centre are listed under professional members of B&W to left of this page. Do they have any services which might help?
