TOPIC: Am I classed as vulnerable? I’m confused & worried

Am I classed as vulnerable? I’m confused & worried 3 days 19 hours ago #246173

I have recently been in hospital with type A flu and was also told I had pneumonia in my left lung by two different consultants although this has not been written on any paperwork I’ve been given. I was in hospital for a week having tamiflu ad other meds. I also have Chronic Obstructive Sleep Apnoea managed with CPAP, polymyalgia, fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis in my hips and knees. I haven’t had a text or email and I know there are others more poorly than me but I just feel forgotten. I’m only 45 I’m currently working full time from home because my boss has allowed me to buy I’m a single mum of an 11 year old and I’m terrified of getting the virus because my son only has me. Should I be classed as vulnerable. I get PIP but my GP surgery is useless and just told me off for phoning them about a fit note for when I was unwell so I can get paid! I feel completely alone. Am I vulnerable? Can I get any help with shopping deliveries? What proof do I need? I don’t think my lungs can take another hit!

Hi Rachel,

First let me say how sorry I am to hear that the current situation has made you feel so confused and worried.

Government guidelines with regard to Coronavirus and vulnerable groups can be found by clicking HERE

From that page it say's that if you are being classed as vulnerable the NHS will contact you directly.

Despite what you have said about your GP may I suggest you also call them for advice about your health issues if they are causing you concern.

Unfortunately we are not able to say whether your should be classed as vulnerable or not .

Please be assured though that we will do the best we can to help you during these worrying times.

I hope this helps.

Take care,

Keith

Hi Rachel

I also think it would be a good idea to contact your GP surgery and get advice from them. Are you aware if they have an online system set in place to handle health queries/appointments? If they do you could use that rather than speak directly to them.

Appears to be 2 set of groups classed as vulnerable . First group will be contacted via letter which includes illness as some cancers, respiratory, severe asthma etc

Following group elderly over 70s and people with underlying health problems eg hypertension

Please do as Keith advised as speak to your surgery

This link might be useful. Although it seems to deal with 'extremely' vulnerable people, rather than vulnerable people.
