TOPIC: Universal Credit phone line

Universal Credit phone line 2 months 1 week ago #246198

I have made a claim for UC, jointly with my husband, who has virtually lost all his freelance income. You have to complete the claim by phoning to make an appointment, It's impossible to get through. I have been trying for 4 days, on hold for hours, or randomly cut off/getting the engaged tone. Once, my husband got through to the wrong team. They could not deal with his call or transfer him. But the woman said that they will be conducting appointments by phone, as obviously face to face is out of the question. She also said that information and evidence will be taken on trust. This was useful to know, but still ... how can we complete our claim if we can't get through?!

Hi Maria,

Your real name is showing when you post, you may want to change this, please see here if you do:

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Unfortunately you are not alone in your experience, the DWP telephone systems are struggling under the pressure due to the sudden influx of calls.

I can only suggest that you keep on trying.
