TOPIC: Telephone Capita Assessment

Telephone Capita Assessment 2 months 6 days ago #246301

Hi I just wondered if anyone has recently had a telephone assessment instead of a face-to-face? My assessment in March was cancelled on the day it was due and now I’m scheduled for a telephone assessment. Has anyone had one and what should I expect?

I haven’t had one but my face to face was supposed to be today but got cancelled. I just got a letter the other day saying they’ll contact me further to rearrange my appointment. Did they contact you and book the time/date for the telephone appointment?

Hi there my f2f was cancelled by Capita in February and was arranged for sometime in March. Then of course it was suspended due to the COVID-19 outbreak and I received a letter on Monday saying I'm having a telephone assessment next Wed 1st April. I'm terrified tbh that I won't come across well on the phone or won't be well enough to do it when they call. I'd like to know also how they go about doing the telephone assessments. Hope all goes well for you.

I have mine ( phone assessment )next Monday and don’t know what to expect and fail to see what they can possibly out of it , I sent consultants reports which were accurate and concise and gp reports both confirming I can’t walk for more than 20 meters , and I was on DLA Higher rate mobility and middle rate care for an “ indefinite “ period , so I’m confused

Hi baden87

PIP was engineered to be a more difficult to award than DLA, many DLA claimants will receive vastly reduced awards or even no award at all on transfer.

DLA looks at generic care needs in regard to bodily functions, PIP looks at the claimants specific ability to carry out an activity such as eating. DLA was awarded because the claimant needed an amount of care (in time) during the day, the night of both, to help them with that bodily function. PIP looks at the claimant's ability to complete specific tasks within the activity and is points-based, these are clearly defined and it is easy not to score points because the claimant has not shown that they meet those specific criteria.

DLA treated the use of aids as a reason to reduce the amount of care needed, PIP treats aids as an indication of disability and in general they score extra points.

DLA's care need was reasonably generic, PIP treats prompting, assistance and supervision as different activities and as a result, they can score different points.

DLA required that the care was required for the majority of the time, for PIP it is the majority of days.

For PIP activities must be completed reliably, this means

• Safely – in a fashion that is unlikely to cause harm to themselves or to another person.
• To a necessary and appropriate standard – given the nature of the activity.
• Repeatedly – as often as is reasonably required.
• In a timely manner – in a reasonable time period.

Although DLA considers these terms, they are poorly defined as they are implemented through Case Law rather than being defined in the legislation as they are for PIP.
