TOPIC: Withdrawal of domiciliary support

Withdrawal of domiciliary support 5 days 7 hours ago #246401

My 51 year old daughter with autism and learning disabilities lives in a local authority flat with another lady with similar disabilities. They receive direct payment from Social Services which funds domiciliary support from a local charity. The charity has now terminated the support to all clients as a result of the virus situation. There is no clear information of any potential solution for these individuals. Is this being experienced widely or not?

Does your daughter have a care worker/social worker assigned to her?

I would give them a call and ask them what support will be provided.

These are unprecedented times and things are changing rapidly on an almost daily basis.

I hope you manage to find some answers for your daughter.

`direct payment should still stay in place if there has not been any re assessment so sounds like its a matter of the provider and not the funds that are the problem.

best wishes

I think you may find the support has been temporarily suspended rather than terminated completely, in line with the current 'virus' recommendations. If you can I would certainly contact her social worker/adult social care and raise your concerns as it may be a safeguarding issue.
I do know the charity I was employed by as a support worker has temporarily suspended their services to clients for protective measures so your daughter is not alone.

Thank you for responses.
I understand that this is temporary and that the Direct Payment is unaffected. I am able to support her myself.
The object of my post was to flag up this consequence of the Covid situation and get a feel for the extent of consequences being experienced nationwide.
