This only applies to ESA, there is no legal requirement for a face to face assessment to be done for PIP so in a worst case scenario a claimant can fail to receive an award even if they have not had a F2F.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Thanks Gordon. Would they send me a letter or is it up to me to find out?

So if your file is with one of the Assessment Providers for PIP, the next action is to see whether a F2F is required or not.

If it is then you will receive notice of an appointment.

If one is not required then the AP will produce a report based on your form and any evidence that you have provided. The DWP should notify you that they have received the report.

The next stage is then for a Decision to be made.

It is really hard when medical professionals won't write letters. We're lucky in our area that they ask people if they need them and say they are willing to write them.

Depends on the attitude of your local team, but I would ask her, if her decision is practice across the board! Some don't write them because they think you will get cross if you don't get your claim or they worry about what to put in. You could ask i they are willing to confirm how long you have been under the care of the mental health team and how regular is the contact and confirmation of your condition. Obviously you do't want to upset them, but have you got a care plan - that is supportive of your position? You should have one and you could send that in as up to date information. If you don't have a copy (because some do them without actually giving it to the service user) ask for it. It's your right to have a copy. However, never send one in if you think it works against you in anyway.
