After first applying for dla back in sept 2010 and being refused I decided to re apply in june with the help of this site. I had a visit from a doctor about 2 weeks ago but he was very abrupt so didn,t really think I had a chance, but to my surprise I got the brown envelope this morning awarding me high rate mobility and low rate care. I am so glad that someone has actually look at my case properly. I just want to thank everyone at benefits and work for the great advise they gave. After struggling for 12 months I now have esa in the support group and also dla and although I am still ill my life will now be much better. To everyone out there carry on and don,t give up you only need one person to realise how bad you really are.

- Go back over your claim documents to make sure you are familiar with what you said.

- Have a look at the DLA claim guides in the Members area, they also include a list of questions you are likely to be asked.

- Have someone with you at the medical, if they can, get them to take notes, but even if they can't, having someone with you will help.

- Take your time to answer, think about what you are going to say, don't allow yourself to be rushed.

- Remember, if they ask you to do something that hurts, tell the "doctor" and don't be pushed into doing it.

- Don't stress. Easier said than done :)

When I had doctor come out at my home he was very abrupt too and I thought I was going to have a fight on my hands - however, I was awarded HRM, MRC (has since been increased on renewal.)

It goes to show that even if a doctor is abrupt don't give up hope and try not to be put off. Congratulations. :woohoo:
