Contribution based ESA and pension was created by Anyan46
Hi.

This is a great resource, I've just joined and would like some confirmation if some could assist please.

My wife became ill 20months ago, she is receiving the full PIP benefit and we have been able to claim contribution based ESA. She is in the support group.

My understanding is that she will be able to claim the ESA without any time restriction ie, always be able to claim if her condition doesn't improve. Is this correct? Also, she is being retired through ill health in the next few weeks, on her 55th birthday. She has a small occupational pension of £980 per year and will receive a lump sum under £5000. I don't think she will have her benefits affected but I'll value the advise, Is there anything here that would affect her ESA and PIP?. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

As long as she continues to meet the criteria for ESA then she will remain entitled. If she remains in the SG then she will continue to be entitled to her ESA(CB),

You need to declare the pension to the DWP, but there is a an £85 per week disregard for pension income so I would not expect her payments to be affected..

If you have further questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help,

I thought I'd logged my thanks. Thanks for the advice.

Does this mean that the payment continues without the need to complete more forms or assessments?

Thanks

I'm afraid not, currently the maximum period in the SG without a reassessment is three years.

Relating to the earlier enquiries, if my wife was to receive a one of lump sum from a pension pay out, is there a limit or value that would affect my wife's ESA (CB) and PIP (SG) benefits?

Also, it looks likely I will have to finish work to take care of her nest year, is the carers benefit of 62p/w the one I should claim and am I correct in my understanding that I can also earn a small amount weekly that would not affect my carer allowance.

Thanks.

Thanks

The lump sum will not effect the ESA or PIP.

A regular pension payment of more than £85 per week would reduce the ESA - but it doesn't sound as if the pension will be this high.
