DLA to PIP was created by Markymate
Hi there, I need some advice please. I sent my PIP form back, nearly nine weeks ago now. I phoned the DWP last week, who told me my case had been handed over to Atos. I then contacted them and they told me that there were no appointments available at the moment, and they would send one out when one was available.
I'm starting to get very concerned as my DLA finishes on the 9th of September, and I have a Motability car, which I really couldn't live without. What happens if I haven't got a decision by then, or I have to appeal? Will I have to return the vehicle till a decision is made, or an appeal is heard?
I'm sure these people don't realise how stressful this procedure is on claimant's, we've been in a total state, every morning waiting for the postman to deliver that brown envelope, then nothing. Then the waiting starts all over again. It feels like torture!!!
Your help and advice would be very welcome.

There has been a marked increase in waiting times for assessments over the last three months or so, we have gone from 2-4 weeks to at least 10-12 weeks and we may now be looking at 14-16 weeks.

Your DLA is required to stay in payment during the transfer process so if no Decision has been made by the time your current award ends then the DWP will extend it by a further year. They may not contact you about this so I would recommend that you check with them closer to the date.

If your Motability agreement also ends in September then I'm afraid I would not expect you to be able to do anything about this until a Decision on your PIP claim is made. You should contact Motability about your options.

Whatever the Decision you DLA will cease payment four weeks after the PIP Decision, if you are in N. Ireland then there is a compensation system that may make payments while you appeal.

Thank you for your great advice, as always. Hopefully this nightmare period will soon come to a good end.
