Can I ask if the small physcial examination has to be carried out during the assessment apt. My son had his assessment on Monday and I realised after it that the assessor did not do this. I was so flustered I forgot to mention or show his hands which would provide evidence for some of the things he can't do. I am his appointee and did manage to answer and expand things when he was questioned but after the appointment I realise there was a lot not covered and don't feel very confident. I did not feel the assessor had read his paperwork prior to coming in and feel that in the stress of the apt I didn't remember a lot of what could've helped. He responded a lot saying maybe which for him means no which i did clarify with him a lot. No way of knowing what will happen but just wondering about the medical examination as I remeber hearing there was always a small functionary one - grip strength etc. I will phone for the report next week.

They don't always do a physical assessment, whether this is a negative or not will be revealed by the assessment report, the assessor may have decided that there was sufficient information in and with the PIP2 that they did not need to actually examine your son.

Thank you Gordon. Hopefully you are right and they will read the forms and put the assessment together with the form and evidence. Time will tell.

We still haven't received a decision on my son's pip although I realise Christmas holidays will have had an impact. Had his f2f 4 weeks ago and I have phoned 3 times asking for a copy of the assessors report but keep being told it can only be issued once a decision has been made. Does anyone know if the rules have changed? We are in N Ireland - it would appear they are treating things differently over here. My concern is that if he is turned down the time taken to put together a response for the MR will be reduced as we may have to wait some time for the report to come out to see what has been said. I know of someone who called 3 times after decision had been made asking for the report but it did not arrive in time for her to respond for the MR and DWP went ahead with it. When she phoned up they also said they hadnt received any further evidence from her (which she sent in) so they went ahead and did the MR. She awaits the letter but assumes it will be same decision.

They may be administering the benefit differently in NI, but on the mainland there i no problem with the claimant receiving the report before the Decision is made, there is certainly no legal reason why you can't.

Thanks Gordon, it wouldn't be so worrying if we had confidence that report would be issued quickly once decision has been made. My friend still hasn't received the copy she requested 3 times.
