Hi guys, I received word today that I have been awarded standard rate PIP for daily living. I also receive ESA (CB) and am currently in the support group. Does the PIP award entitle me to any of the premiums? I live by myself and no one gets carers allowance for me. I’ve tried phoning ESA but was on hold for an hour and given. Any help would be greatly appreciated :(

The ESA Premiums are not payable with ESA(CB) only Income Related ESA, have you checked whether you are eligible for this? ESA(IR) is dependant on your household income, your savings and assets, and any hours that your partner works. See

Asset and savings rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

If you are then you should receive the Enhanced Disability Premium for being in the ESA Support Group and the Severe Disability Premium (based on your post) as a result of the PIP DL award/

Also, if you are then it is worth your checking whether the ESA(IR) can be backdated.

Thanks Gordon. To do the IR ESA check does that require me to reapply for ESA or is at secondary check?

ESA is a single benefit with two payment options you can receive ESA(CB), ESA(IR) or ESA(CB) with and ESA(IR) top-up.

This is a financial assessment so you will need to complete an ESA3

www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/136119/re...ch/3/ESA3%201012.pdf

but it is not a assessment of your entitlement to ESA and will not effect your SG status.

Thank :)

When you to check whether the IR can be backdated, how do,I do this? What are the usual rules for backdating? I’ve been in CB based ESA since November, could it possible be backdated from then?

So when you request the ESA3 from the office dealing with your ESA claim then tell them that you believe it should be backdated and then do so again in a covering letter that you should include when you return the form

The Enhanced Premium should be back dated to when you were placed in the Support Group and the Severe Disability Premium will be from the day you were awarded PIP Daily Living.
