Hello all,

Quick query regarding the form for reviewing existing PIP claims: is it possible to request an extension on the deadline for completing and returning this?

If so, how long an extension period can be granted?

Many thanks in advance.

It should be possible to request a two week extension by contacting the DWP office dealing with your claim.

Hello Gordon and many thanks.

Will I be asked to provide paper-based evidence of why I need an extension, or will explaining on the phone that I have a number of severe mental health conditions and poor concentration and focus due to medication that I take be sufficient?

You will need to provide an explanation but not a written one, your mental health issues should be sufficient. I'm not aware of anybody who has not been able to get an extension when they rang.

Hello again,

Could I please ask for help in clearing up some confusion relating to medical evidence and the PIP review form (AR1)?

So, as I understand it (and please correct me if I'm getting this hopelessly muddled/wrong) if I tick "no change" for an activity, then I shouldn't provide new medical evidence for that activity (such as hospital discharge letters etc) and will instead be assessed based on the evidence I provided with my PIP2 form?

The reason I am confused is because my difficulties stem mostly from my mental health, and although my ability to carry out the activities on the form has not changed in any way since I was initially assessed for PIP in 2015, my mental health has still deteriorated a great deal since then. I have hospital discharge letters from a number of suicide attempts, copies of psychiatric assessment reports and a new mental health care plan - all of which are less than two years old and therefore were not submitted with my PIP2 form.

I have also had a number of medication changes in the interim which have caused me new problems (mostly side-effects and the like) and am awaiting a diagnostic assessment for ASD - which if it leads to an autism diagnosis, won't change the limitations I face but will provide further explanation for why those limitations are there.

Is it worth me sending any of this information with the AR1 form as none of it has made any difference at all to my ability to carry out the activities on the form?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Idonia.

There are no hard and fast rules for attaching evidence to the AR1 form, I certainly would not say that you should not attach evidence if ticking "no change".

You need to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of adding new evidence. The negative is that it has the potential to create contention between what you have supplied previously and what you supply now, however, newer evidence will support the argument that you are still effected in the same way.
