Face-to-face at home? was created by Steve Blue
Dear B&W,

A couple of months ago we completed my Dad's PIP form and submitted it with the relevant supporting evidence to the DWP.

Today my Dad received a letter from CAPITA advising that they needed to meet him for a face-to-face. They also advised that they would be coming to see him at home? Is this unusual?

Although, the DWP travelling to my Dad would save him the discomfort of traveling etc, he still doesn't like the idea  I think my dad feels it's an invasion of his privacy. Anyway...

Would it be possible to give any idea of what to expect? Will the DWP want to look all around house etc? Are there tests involved? In the past assessments have always been completed away from home.

Any help you're able to offer would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Bluebear.

A home assessment when one has not been requested, is an indication that the Assessment Provider considers their problems to be sufficiently severe to warrant one based on the information already supplied

The assessor is a guest in your father's son and has no more rights to look around then anybody else, in reality it is very unlikely that the assessor will ask, although they make take note of things as they enter his home.

There may be a basic physical examination, walking a short distance, joint mobility and a grip test.

The PIP Claim guide has a section covering the assessment and the questions he is likely to be asked.

Thanks, Gordon.

Regarding the PIP Claim guide having a section covering the assessment and the questions he is likely to be asked. I may be having a blonde moment. Can you confirm the page number at all? I may be looking at the wrong guide/link

Dear Bluebear,
Strongly suggest you phone Capita on the landline if the assessor does not attend promptly for the appointment ( ie wait 5 mins then call). Some assessors have been lying about the claimant being out, so the claim is cancelled!

With B&W,

With the home face-to-face assessment drawing closer I just thought I'd query the following:

My dad will need someone with him for support, as he can become irritated. This is due mainly to the pain from his condition. All this is echoed throughout his PIP form. Due to his discomfort he can be short tempered also and can become frustrated when people do not understand his condition.

Our dilemma...

Do I support him? I know (I'd like to think) more about what the assessor will be looking for? The things that needs to be highlighted etc. But would I be able to speak at all?

Or should my mum support him? She knows most about the day to day care my dad needs, but may not be quick to point out relevant details.

If someone supports him, are they aloud to speak? What part can they play?

Friday looms closer

Kind regards,
Bluebear.
