TOPIC: PIP assessment tomorrow

PIP assessment tomorrow 1 week 7 hours ago #214606

I have my PIP assessment tomorrow and feel absolutely awful. I had to apply for it because I am currently on DLA (high rate care, low rate mobility). It's for mental health problems I have. Has anyone ever received PIP for mental health? I have spoke to a few 'professional' people about it and my GP says I won't get awarded it because "PIP wasn't designed for mental health". My benefit adviser says I will get it and that my form was so good I won't even have to go for an assessment (but I do!). I also met a former assessor, she was a mental health nurse and she said I won't get it either because I don't have a CPN etc, and that she hated her job and ended up on the sick herself. I don't have any input because I used to get support from a mental health association but they only allow you a 'course' of 6 months due to cuts. I was discharged from my psychiatrist because there was nothing more they could do for me as my condition is chronic. I also have no one to take with me (the benefit adviser said I would get a home visit no problem!). I asked the mental health association if they could provide someone to come with me, as they have done in the past, but they said they don't do that service any more due to the cuts. They did, however, send me a link that they thought would be helpful...When I clicked on it it was Glasgow city council's appeals service!! Does anyone have any tips/advice? Any idea what I might get asked?? thanks

You can most certainly receive PIP for mental health issues and we have members that do, nor do you have to be receiving treatment for an award.

The PIP Claim guide has sections that cover the assessment and the questions you are likely to be asked.

Best of luck for tomorrow.

Oh and forgot to say they phoned my GP to tell her I had suicidal thoughts (which she is well aware of). Why would they have done that?? My GP never mentioned what else (if anything) they spoke about.

Sorry, i've just noticed the link you sent me is for the guide dated 31st July. I have been using the last version (May I think?), can you tell me what the main differences are please?

If the person was a Health Care Professional then they probably thought that they had a dury of care for you.
