ESA work capability assessment was created by innjan
Today I went with my daughter to her work assessment for esa . My daughter has paranoid schizophrenia and autism . We were assessed by a doctor . He only assessed my daughter on her mental health and no questions on how her autism affects her ! It was obvious he did not know much about autism my daughter has scotopic sensitivity syndrome and told her she needed an eye test failing to understand that reading black print on a white background is the main problem. Has anyone else experienced problems with work assessments for autism ?

Although the condition can define the problems that a claimant has with the ESA activities it is actually the limitations that result from that condition that are being assessed.

The difficulty is that the ESA assessment is split in two, looking at what physical problems the claimant has, the Irlen syndrome should fall under this heading and what are labelled mental health issues which I think most autism issues would fall under.

It may well be that the assessor did not have a proper understanding of Autism issues but I'm not sure their approach to the assessment was wrong based on what you have said.

A Decision should be made in 2-5 weeks.
