PIP Mandatory Reconsideration

PIP Mandatory Reconsideration was created by LarryD
I sent a letter asking for a reconsideration on 26 August 2018 which was delivered on 31 August 2018.
Not having heard anything back, I just called them. While I was holding to speak to someone a recorded message said it takes around 6 weeks for a mandatory reconsideration. When I spoke to someone she said they had received my request buy that it hadn't yet been read, that she would "register it" and that it would be around 6 weeks more. I said that recorded message seemed to suggest it was around 6 weeks total. I was told it is 6 weeks from being registered. And in my case, that registration came 9 weeks after they received my request.
It's a long wait!

Hi Larry,
My MR kicked in just after yours on the 5th of September - and still have heard nothing.
I get a different story every time I ring the helpline so am not at all sure what is happening, if anything at all.
Last time I phoned, earlier this week, was that it was still with a Decision Maker and advised to ring weekly for any updates.
So no idea how much longer you might be waiting. Sorry.

I finally heard after four months of waiting. Unfortunately they have not changed their minds. Now I’ll have to have a go and drafting appeal grounds.

The PIP Appeal guide has links to the SSCS1 form that you will need to complete and the Submissions guide has a complete example that you can use to help you fill it in, you do not need to provide detailed reasons at this stage for your request.
Once your appeal is accepted the DWP will prepare their submission to the hearing and send you a copy, whilst you should wait until you receive this to finish and submit your own, you should start to prepare your own case, an increased award will only be made by your showing that you score the extra points for one, so I would start by going back through your PIP2, the assessment report and the PIP Claim guide to see how you might show this is the case.
