ESA3 Form was created by Anfortas
Hi,
I am currently on Contribution-Based ESA, and have received the ESA3 Form today.
Some years back, my Benefits Advisor actually told me I would-be eligible for Severe Disability Premium (?) but only if I switched to Income-Related ESA.
I looked into it at the time, and it looked to me that while on CB-ESA I would be able to get a bundle of years between ESA Assessments, but if I switched to IR-ESA, I would have MANDATORY Annual re-assessments, and I decided to just 'keep my head below the parapet', and be immensely grateful for the 2-3 year gaps between Assessments.
They have written to me saying:
"At the moment you're getting CB-ESA which replaced the IB you were getting
We need to look at your claim to decide if you might also be eligible for income-related ESA from 23 May 2013. If you are, you may be entitled to extra payments."
So, I am now 2.5 years from my previous Assessment, and I need to know the consequences of filling in the ESA3 form - i.e. if I go for the (hopefully) cash, will I also be subjecting myself to Annual Reappraisals?
I am 3 years away from Official Retirement Age, and I was also wondering if I might just possibly qualify for the 'light-touch' Assessments, where they realise that you aren't likely to get any better in the foreseeable future, so they just leave you on the 'back burner'.
If I go for ESA3 and the Cash, would that also scupper my chances for being left alone for the three years until I get State Pension?
Any advice would be HUGELY appreciated !!
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I've moved your post to its own topic, we ask members not to post their questions in other member's topics as it can lead to the wrong advice being given or taken.

You have been misinformed, first, you will not lose entitlement to your ESA(CB) the ESA(IR) will be paid as a top-up to your existing ESA(CB). Secondly, receiving ESA(IR) does not mean annual reassessments, your receiving ESA(IR) has no influence on the time between assessments.

The ESA3 is a financial assessment only it cannot affect your current award.

I'm afraid the DWP cannot decide that you do not need further assessments without doing a full reassessment of your claim.

It is possible that the DWP will defer any planned reassessment, I would contact the DWP office dealing with your claim to see what reassessment date is held on your computer record.
