Hi, My son is due to move into supported living which we have been told will trigger a universal credit application due to having to claim housing benefit. I have looked intò this and I'm not sure if I'm right. Is it true my son will lose severe, enhanced and disability premiums (about £115 a week)? If this is true are there any premiums added on to universal credit like the current system with ESA.
If he needs to make a new claim for Housing Benefit in a UC Full Service area then he cannot avoid his ESA also being migrated to UC.
Currently, UC has no provision for the payment of the ESA Premiums, it's just the EDP and SDP, the Disability Premium is not payable with ESA as it is replaced by the WRAG or Support component.
There are plans to deal with at least the issue of the SD Premium and claimants should be compensated for any lost benefit but it seem this is unlikely to happen until the start of next year.
