ESA -- Any Update on the Initial Cohort of 10,000?

Just read the 14 November 2018 Newsletter. The section titled "MASS MIGRATION FROM ESA TO UC STILL GOING AHEAD" made for particularly depressing reading -- but it is better to be pre-informed than not informed.

However, what wasn't mentioned was who this migration is actually going to affect initially. A previous Newsletter (17 October 2018) had mentioned a leaked document (leaked from where? from the DWP itself?) which, reportedly, said that an initial migration would be limited in scope; a single cohort of 10,000 around July 2019 and then no more until November 2020. Is there any update on this information -- or was that not covered in the new DWP official announcement?

(I also just want to say thanks to Benefits and Work for providing a very useful and informative service. I get targeted news on the benefits system from Benefits and Work, which is a lot more efficient than trying to trawl online newspapers for any snippets of information they might, and it is only might, publish. And an excellent Benefits and Work forum for raising questions. Great service Benefits and Work, much appreciated. Well worth the subscription cost.)

At the moment all they are looking at is the mechanism of the transfer bit who will be affected and when, it's unlikely that this will become clear until the end of next year and likely only after the initial trial has been completed.

Hello,

Many apologies to BuddhaNature for hijacking your post, but I had a thought related to this and wanted to ask Gordon a question about it.

Gordon, I was awarded ESA SG in November 2017 for three years, with reassessment due to take place in July 2020 (confirmed by a phone call I made to the DWP after receiving the decision letter). Is there any chance I might end up being reassessed and made to claim UC before this date of July 2020? I ask because I was one of the first people to be reassessed for ESA from IS for disability, back in 2011, even though at that time I was also receiving DLA high rate care and low rate mobility, and was therefore exempted from reassessments of my IS. So since they seem to already have a track record for reassessing me for things early, I'm really afraid they will put me in this initial trial of 10,000 next year.

Many thanks in advance to Gordon and sorry once again to BuddhaNature!

Idonia.

No one is being transferred to UC at the moment unless they have to make a new claim for one of the benefits that come under the UC umbrella.
