ESA reassessment began April 2016, still ongoing!

I have been helping my son with ESA reassessment. The reassessment forms were completed in April 2016. We heard nothing for ages. Were advised to contact local MP this year, but that didn't really help to get it sorted, and I think possibly DWP dug their heels in a little afterwards.

Finally he had a home medical, and shocked to discover he received ZERO points, despite having higher rates PIP for mobility and living. ESA was stopped immediately, no warning, overnight.

I have since followed the process i.e. MR, then the appeal process and we are currently waiting for a tribunal date. Whilst waiting he is receiving assessment rate ESA. Previously he had been in WRAG group, but I asked for Support group as condition / health has actually worsened. Was hospitalised last year and no way is it ever going to improve. It is a lifelong, chronic illness, treatments only take the edge off some of the symptoms.

So what is going on? Why is it taking so long? What are other people experiencing?

I am dumfounded by the length of time it has taken so far. I think Universal Credit will be rolled out in our area soon, so what is likely to happen when this comes into force?

Anyone with any advice or guidance please?

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Contact the Tribunal Service, they should be able to give you an update for wait times for a hearing in your area.

UC being rolled out in your area will have no effect on your son's claim at this time, the only people being moved to UC prior to the end of 2019are those who need to make a new claim for one of the benefits that UC replaces.

Although your son's conditions may have deteriorated, this does not mean that he meets the criteria for the Support Group, see our ESA Claim guides for this.
