PIP statements from medical report was created by ela67
Hello
I'm wondering if I could post some statements/comments from my son's pediatrician's report to see if they are relevant and specific enough to be used as supporting evidence for his PIP claim. I will obviously remove any identifying factors, but don't want to breach any terms and conditions in relation to confidentiality. Just wanted to check first.
Thank you

I don't have a problem with you posting the information but I do find it very difficult to provide meaningful feedback on these things, I can usually say what is wrong but not what is right.

Thanks Gordon, I understand the difficulty. Any kind of feedback or comment if possible would be useful I'm sure

I'm planning to include my son's recent report from his pediatrician as evidence at his tribunal. I wondered if you could tell me if you think the following info is relevant enough to the PIP mobility descriptors. I understand I have to be specific in relation to distance for the moving around part. I've also included other medical notes and detailed, concise information on how his conditions relate to the descriptors etc. His pediatrician isn't aware we are applying for PIP so his comments may not be specific enough? He has written the following:

"As a result of his congenital hypotonia, truncal ataxia and easy muscle fatigue, he struggles to walk any distance.
"He remains highly vulnerable as a young person with autism and struggles going from A to B"
"His physiotherapist has been clear about X's motor difficulties and how certain aspects of his life will need to be adapted to accommodate for his easy muscle fatigue"
"He struggles to travel independently, has easy muscle fatigue and this has an impact on his coordination"

Thank you

There is nothing wrong with what is being said but it does not qualify the distance he can walk, the PIP Distances are surprisingly short so you will need to provide additional evidence if you are aiming for 20m.

Thanks for that Gordon. I think the most accurate descriptor for him is b:50 to 200m once the criteria of repeatedly and reliably undertaking an activity is considered. I don't have anything that states an actual distance. I requested his medical notes through a SAR from his GP and hopefully these additional reports along with describing his difficulties to the tribunal will give them an idea of how his conditions affect him..Thanks again
