Sorry :( to Moderators and to Lindsey Farquharson for adding my question to her CA thread. I have read the FAQ's and now realise I should have posted my own question which is what I'm doing now.
I have paid part-time work which is below the permitted income threshold. Although I would make the point that when the minimum wage was increased, the CA earnings threshold was not, which seemed unfair, unfathomable and must have caused Carers problems at the time. Has anyone thought of raising this point with Gov, DWP, MPs etc?

My worry is that I now receive a monthly rental income which when added to my part-time earnings is over the permitted limit. I do not keep the rental income myself. To explain - I borrowed the accessible 25% of my husband's pension pot to buy a flat for our disabled daughter to live in to attend University. (She cannot live in Halls as she would have nowhere to live during the Summer months, and a private rental is not appropriate with her levels of domestic difficulty and self-neglect. Also private landlords wont let to people on benefits). She pays me rent, mostly funded by Housing Benefit, which I then repay to my husband as it is part of his pension pot. I only realised that it could be regarded as income when I completed a self-assessment tax return recently.

"When I read your recent warnings about Carer's being targeted by DWP I am now worried that I could be facing a huge fine. I am considering stopping my claim for CA as my daughter is currently moving from DLA to PIP and I may be denied CA. I do visit most weekends, but most of my caring is over the phone to either directly support her or making calls on her behalf, which for DLA was accepted but for PIP is not. Please advise if you can. Thank you very much.

Thanks for creating your own topic.

I'm afraid I can't give you a definitive answer it depends on whether a Decision Maker considers it to be the result of a business that you are involved in, in which case it counts or whether it is the result of an investment, in which case it doesn't. I can't find anything that is black and white about your circumstances.

My advice is to first, get face to face advice from a trained Welfare Rights advisor they may have a better understanding of the requirements than I do. Do an internet search for "welfare advice" with your postcode, town or county.

Failing that contact the Carers Unit and explain your situation.

Thanks v much Gordon. I will follow your advice (it's always good) Although I need to support my daughter through a Face t Face assessment for PIP from DLA in a fortnight, so I need to put my time and energy into preparing myself and her for that. I have a query about recording equipment but will start a separate post for that one. MANY THANKS AGAIN
