filling out the how your illness affects you

haloo! i'm having an awful time filling this form out. i can do the tick boxes alright (thanks for the help on the b and e website!), but writing the extra information has become a massive stumbling block. i've been granted an extension already. everytime i try to think about how bad, how much i am affected each day, i lose the ability to be objective, all the cbt stuff goes out the window, and i usually end up weeping before getting through more than half a section. attempting the form has triggered seizures, caused vomiting, and sometimes led to a slump that lasts for days. sometimes i can talk about it (when i did hte dla form, someone came to the house, and i spent two hours sobbing while they wrote stuff down, but that assistance isn't offered any more), but talk and write, no. i have trouble getting out of the house sometimes, and getting across town to the library for a cab appointment hasn't worked yet. i can't just write 'it's too hard to put on paper' each time.
Suggestions would be gratefully received!

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Try and break down the process down into smaller and more manageable amounts.

For example; try and write a bullet list of the problems that you have for each activity, then try and expand each point into a sentence, then to a paragraph, etc.

Don't write until you can't do any more, set a timer and stop and then come back to it after you have done something else.

Of course, make use of our PIP Claim guide to help you complete the form, it includes a standard approach to answering the questions that may help with the above.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

If you need a further extension then ask now as it will require a Decision Maker to look at it.

hello! thanks for that.
the name showing link doesn't work, but it's okay. i don't mind who knows i'm applying for pip.
i guess i might just need to be firmer about the manageable pieces making, it's that my overview mind takes over and i get so overwhelmed i forget to concentrate on one thing at a time. it's the same when i go to a doctor's appt, i often tend to minimize the problems even tho that's just where i should be explaining them fully.
Is it possible to bring the form down to the jobcentre office to submit it, so that i have an extra day?
sorry for being a bit... not finding things, but could you say which section has a standardized approach in it? or do you mean answering the questions that are listed under the section heading?
thanks for your help with this. even just having someone to communicate with about the form is easing my mind, somewhat. i finished i think the first topic.
kind regards

You can take the form to your local JC+ office where they will scan it and email it to the office dealing with your claim but you will need to make an appointment to do this.

If you look at our PIP Claim guide, at the end of each of the sections covering the PIP activities there is a formula with worked examples you can use to help you write your own.

Hi

If you can’t get professional help is there a friend or relative that could help? They are usually more honest about how severe things are too. Although o struggle with my own forms I’ve helped several people complete theirs.
And of course using the guides had helped too.
Really hope you get some help and get it submitted soon as the longer it hangs over you it is probably stressing you more. Take care. ❤️
