I'm in a Universal Credit area (Newcastle) and have an upcoming ESA re-assessment(support group). If I fail the medical and go through mandatory reconsideration then appeal, what happens due to UC? Do I have to look for work while being treated for alcoholism etc?

Yes, if you fail the assessment then you will be moved to the All work-related activity group and will be required to seek work.
