Caring and claiming benefits was created by Lisa
If my son informs uc that he cares for his brother 35 hours a week will his brother lose his sdp? He doesn’t claim Carers Allowance because of this but to be recognised as a carer for the sake of uc and to change his work commitments he will have to name him. His brother is paranoid if he does he will get his esa took off him so says he can’t so that leaves my son having to prove he’s looking for work 35hours a week while also caring for him and also me ( I don’t get pip waiting for appeal). Hopefully if I get my pip reinstated he will claim Carers Allowance for me
Thank you

UC operates differently from ESA, receiving the Carers Element even if he is not claiming Carers Allowance will result in his brother losing their SDP payment, about £64/week. This should have no other impact on their ESA providing they are receiving more than the SDP.

So in other words my son on uc will receive an extra £64 but my other son on esa will lose £64 ? Even if Carers Allowance isn’t claimed or does he need to claim it to receive the £64 ? It’s so confusing
And what about Carer’s Credit is that worth claiming ? I know you don’t receive money but national insurance credits. Should he claim that ?
Thank you Gordon for replying

Actually, it is a £64 loss and £36.50 gain.

There is no specific requirement under UC for CA to be claimed.

Carers Credit only pays NI Credits, your son is already receiving these under UC CC does not enable the payment of the Carers Element.

But regardless if my son claims Carer’s or not his brother will lose his sdp ?
He has me named as who he provides care for but because I don’t receive pip only lcwra he can’t include the time he provides care for me in is online journal according to his work coach or he will be sanctioned again !

No, he will only lose it if your other son receives the Carers Element as part of his UC claim and he declares he is caring for him.

As an aside, where does the son who is receiving the SDP live?
