Should I update DWP now? was created by Inspector
I suffered a Significant Traumatic Brain Injury in 2010 on holiday in America. I also suffered a stroke on the aircraft bringing me back to the UK.

I was left with several disabilities and had to accept Ill Health Retirement from my Local Authority employer after 46 years in employment.

I was awarded the higher rate of PIP Care & Mobility in July 2013 for 3 years, and again in 2016 for 6 years, up until Dec 2021.

I assume I will be invited to complete some sort of review 1 year before, so expect this to occur in Dec 2020.

I continue to suffer the negative effects of the brain injury and the stroke, as well as Hemiplegic Migraines, TIA's, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, chronic arthritis in the spine, PTSD and depression and several lessor disabilities.

This week I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia!

Q/ Should I inform DWP now and risk triggering an early review, or wait and declare it at the next review?

Q/ Bearing in mind the recent news regarding 'light touch reviews' for recipients of both the higher levels of care and mobility, what type of review do you think I am likely to be asked to complete. I fully understand that you can only speculate at this, but your experienced opinion would be appreciated?

I will be 68 when reviewed next.

Regards

Lewis

As you are already receiving the highest award for PIP I don't think the DWP are going to be bothered if you don't tell them about a new condition which I assume affects your ability to complete the PIP activities.

At this time we don't have any view of who will receive a Light Touch review and what this will consist of, the first On-Going awards will not come up for reassessment until 2023. There is some consideration being given to claimants who have an Enhanced award but I will be honest and say that I think that it will be claimants with a ten-year award that will be offered a Light Touch review, those with shorter terms are likely to be reassessed as normal.
