pathway to work interview was created by Diane Rice
Hi, My husband has got a date for his 1st interview - his last "fit" note from his GP was for 6 months so he has said he is not fit to do any kind of work until October ( he was working but has now lost his job due to ill health) - can they expect him to do work related activity if his GP has said he is not fit enough? Should we mention this at the interview?

Hi Diane,
I don't think it will make any difference to the DWP that your husband has a sicknote from his GP.

I was declared to have limited ability to work but not to attend work related activity which was just turning up at the private employment company and talking about work.

I had to attend 5 Work Focus Interviews which were monthly and now after WFI5 i only have to attend every 6 months, there was not work involved, they showed me printouts of latest jobs and the rest was all just talking about my interview skills and self esteem etc.

During these WFIs i have seen a lady in a wheelchair breathing like leaky bellows but still in the Work Related Activity Group, i think you would have to be on a life support machine to escape these interviews!

All the best, Ranald.

With the change from 'sick' to 'fit' it is somewhat different in-so-far as, your husband will have been issued with a fit note stating what he is unable to do...or it should read that way.

GP's are generally confused on what precisely to say - so it varies greatly on what information is contained within the fit note.

doctor has ticked the box "you are not fit for work", not the other box which says you could resume work with the following amendments to duties etc
