Some of you may find the process of applying for benefits very distressing. The advice you can find on this site about how to apply for benefits may alleviate some of this distress, but we cannot help with the emotional side of things.

Please do not post messages saying that you will harm yourself as these will not be approved for publication. However, there are other places where you can get help with your distress.

The Samaritans can listen to your concerns, and you do not have to be suicidal to call them. Their number is 08457 90 90 90 and it is available 24/7/365. Their website www.samaritans.org/default.aspx has details of local branches where you may be able to drop in, together with local telephone numbers if that would be cheaper for you.

Saneline (08457 678 000) offers a listening ear in the evenings. www.sane.org.uk/SANEline

Mind Infoline (0845 766 0163) can give you information about local sources of help. www.mind.org.uk/help/advice_lines

If you are in crisis, consider contacting your GP, out of hours service or A&E. If you are already using mental health services, now may be the time to contact your mental health team or local crisis team.
