Hi moondancer, please don't feel abandoned, it's just that sometimes nobody has an easy answer to questions posted on this forum.

I'm really sorry I can not help apart from suggesting that you and your son seek help from a welfare advisor.

Best wishes,
Rachel

It's fine for you to help your son fill the form in if he'll let you. The form doesn't have to be all in one handwriting. If you and your son prefer, you could write something extra on separate paper and attach it to the form or send something direct to the Decision Maker.

Don't forget to look at our guides to filling in DLA forms. Although the various forms vary, the principles are the same for filling all of them in.

This info from the Alzheimer's Society explains about becoming an appointee. Although their guidance is aimed at people with dementia, the principles and procedures are the same for other mental conditions.

To become his appointee you telephone the DLA Unit they will contact a local office and someone will come out and see you both and if its the right thing for your son they will do the paperwork

with regards filling in the DLA paperwork you can call the CAB or your local council for help they both have people who might help also if he is blind or has some other problem that has a national charity they might be able to help or aim you in the right direction to get help
