Hallo again, firstly many, many thnks. for the newsletters and the assistance which for me has also been hugely beneficial. I have just been browsing through the forum topics and since october 2010 am in receipt of esa and middle rate DLA How long can i expect to recieve ESA ? I have worked over 40 years and didnt ask for this progressive illness buthave been reading that it only runs for a year? what happens after that? thks.

New legislation, not passed yet, but unnlikely to be opposed, will limit Contribution Based ESA to one year for members of the ESA WRAG, but not the Support Group.

The change will come into effect in April 2012, but will be retrospective, so you have at least a further 11 months on ESA(CB).

After this time you will be eligible to claim Income Related ESA, however, this is means tested, with regard to income and assets.

Hope this explains it.
