I have heard various people talk about getting their MP involved with their appeals i was just wondering what the advantages to this actually are and how you go about doing it.

There is a department of senior staff at the DWP whos job is to answer MPs letters, you write to your MP and they look at your problem ... if they can it gets sorted then they write back to your
P a nice letter saying blah blah balh (but its sorted) :) if its not sorted your mp if he can writes to the minister at the DWP he then talks to this department and they have another bash :)

There are clearly good reasons for getting your MP involved in some situations, the awful example of someone trying to get a home medical which is running an another thread, is a good (or bad), example.

However, a Tribunal is a legal process, so there is little your MP can do, or more likely, is allowed to do. There is a small possibility they might be able to expedite the hearing, but I think even this is unlikely unless there has already been significant delay.

My MP wrote to DWP and got a reply which he passed on to me. It basically just apologised for their inefficiencies but I did receive my appeal pack not long after this letter was sent so I do think it helps hurry things along.

I never received any replies to letters I sent myself. It is also worth doing it simply to highlight the ridiculousness of some DWP decisions.
