Hi everyone,
Just a quick word to let you know of my experience in trying to chase up my back pay after my successful ESA appeal on 15th August. I appealed against having been moved from the Support Group to the WRAG, I won and my Support Group status was reinstated. However, last week I noticed that my usual ESA payment was still at the WRAG rate and not the Support Group, also there was no sign of my backdated payments.
Basically, it's just to say if you're in the same situation and you ring the DWP to chase this up, be prepared to have to make a total nuisance of yourself and make sure you pester them to death otherwise they'll just fob you off with promises to return calls, which they then don't. They had me sitting around all day yesterday having promised to call me back by 4pm. I was straight back on the phone to them this morning and told them I wasn't going to stop phoning until they dealt with my query. After them saying they would ring back within the hour (which, of course, they didn't), I eventually got a call some hours later. The woman told me that my next ESA payment would be at the correct Support Group rate and that the back pay 'should' be in my account my the middle of next week. This therefore would be a three-week gap between the successful appeal and receiving all monies due. It remains to be seen, of course, whether the money will appear!
The woman I spoke to also said that they had a 'huge backlog' of payments to process (probably too many appeals being won!), hence the delay. Funny how they never seem to have a 'huge backlog' when it comes to stopping or reducing benefits though, mmm?
