My DLA is due for renewal and with the help of the guides I've filled the form out as best as I can.

My conditions have actually worsened since my first claim and I've tried to explain this.

My worry is and I'm sure this applies to so many others that they still might reduce or cancel my DLA amounts - HRM and MRC.

Financially I would have no choice but to appeal.

I have a motability car which still has 2 years left on the "contract"

I think I understand that because appeals take so long that motability have no choice but to ask for the car back.

I live in the rural countryside with no bus service and depend on the car to get to the doctors, hospital and consultants.

I know it's a difficult question but how long will motability let me keep the car.

Also a very close friend has kindly said that during the wait for the appeal they will give me the money to pay motability - are they likely to accept this?

I know I should phone motability and ask all these questions - but I am terrible on the phone and probably won't make myself clear.

If you can offer me any advice I would be so grateful.

Many thanks.

Whether Motability require the car to be returned immediately or at some time later, and whether they will require you to cover the payments in the interim, will al depend on personal circumstances and how your award is affected.

Unfortunately there is no way to pre-empt this.

Hi, I am new to this forum but I can help answer this question. I had a Motability Vehicle which I renewed at the end of December 2010. For reasons I won't go into at this moment in time (as it will take too long) I had to submit a new claim for my DLA. Motability Operations have the control to extend the lease if they choose to do so. I can't praise Motability Operations enough as they extended my lease in a hope that DLA would make their decision and the fact that I had paid to have my automatic wheelchair hoist transferred from my old Motability Vehicle and fitted to my new vehicle, and if they took it from me I would have to pay again to have it removed and find somewhere to store it added to the fact I live in a rural location and have no public transpr=ort that I can use. It got to the stage where they were no longer able to extend my lease and had to claim the vehicle back. They gave me plenty of notice, they didn't come knocking on the door unannounced. This has left me with no car, unable to use public transport due to being a full-time wheelchair user and also living in a rural location. I had to pay a further £100 to have the wheelchair hoist removed. I am now housebound, and have been since the 9th September 2011. I have been refused both my HRM and HRC and am unable to go anywhere. I cant afford a taxi. The couple of friends I do have are at work during the day. I have found myself falling into a downward sprial. The decision makers seem to think I can walk 200 metres, when in fact I can't walk at all and have been unable to for 17 years (this is how long I have had HRM) until now! I have nothing, no vehicle no income. I hope this helps you in some way, Kind regards Littleme

I am so sorry to hear about this nightmare littleme :( Is this because they have changed it from 'walking' to 'mobilising' and you can self propel?
It is immorale and inhumane

Hi Linda, I asked them to reconsider my application which they refused, and have now started the appeals ball rolling. I self propel for very, very short distances and it has been like this for the last 17 years of which there has never been a problem. My Motability Car was my life line and now this has been taken away from my I am totally house-bound. I am awaiting to receive the paperwork as to how they made their decisions and what information they based this on. I know they had a doctors report written by a doctor who has never seen me! to add insult to injury (pardon the pun) a friend was just telling me how her friend uses her Mothers Motability Vehicle all the time for her own day to day living like taking the children to school and going to and from her workplace and for her own socialising. I know this is not how it is supposed to be but she said that she wouldn't be able to afford a car of her own.... that is how the system is being used and yet the genuine are left to suffer and fight for all they are worth!
