do people with mental illness get in SG was created by mike1983
every thread ive read here alot of the people are suffering from unfortunate illnesses but alot tend to be phsyical based, i suffer with autism and depresion and epilespy and i read the test for mental health to get in the support group and alot of the answers are related to autism. or are ATOS just going to say well he can walk, talk and he has all his bodyparts so he can go in the WRAG, i dnt see the point in all this ATOS medical stuff since arnt they going to be replacing ESA with universal credit in 2015 anyway

My friend who suffers from anxiety, social phobia and depression and who was transferred from IB (9 years on IB) to ESA, was put in the support group without a medical. Other friends with the same illness, who attend the same therapeutic community, have been placed in WRAG with or without a medical, while some from the same therapy group, on the same medication and under the same psychiatrist have failed to get in at all. This has had the effect of making us all argue amongst ourselves over who is more worthy. It just seems like a lottery to me.

Mike. I cannot imagine the introduction of universal credit will involve getting rid of medical assessments, but have to confess i know nothing about UC.

I know you have talked about completing the form with the help of your mum when the time comes, which sounds like a good plan. I think it would also be a good idea to check that your doctor/support worker (if you have one) have a shared understanding of where you meet the support group criteria.

Mel. I can only imagine the friction the farcical scenario you describe has created. No two people's circumstances are ever exactly the same, but what a nightmare. Do you mind me asking if they even had the same assessor?

Hi Catherine,

We all had to send our forms to Atos in Cardiff, and the local benefit office is in Wrexham, so yes, all by the same assessor. It is farcical isn't it. I am still waiting (7 weeks now)for the brown envelope, and already anticipating an appeal because the decisions made in this area are so random.

Do not allow anybody to ever put down epilepsy as something to be pushed to the side and ignored as I lost my 19 year son to it, having a seizure in his sleep...please make SURE you take the meds prescribed to you and take care.We were never told it could happen as it did ...
