Hi

You can get help in completing the DLA forms from our guides -

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/dla/#dlaclaims

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/dla/#dlachanges

Its important to note that DLA awards are based on the help you need from someone else (needs arising) and not just on a medical condition alone.

Your GP may receive a form to complete from the DWP, you should ensure s/he is aware of all your medical conditions and completes the form correctly.

DLA renewals are treated basically as new claims, its best to download and complete a full DLA claim form.

Regards

Michael

stickman1992 hi you got your dla review form on the 20/12/11 what date do you have to return it by.i got mine on 23/12/11 and have to return it for the 17/01/12 thats less than 3 weeks taking into account the holliday's,a request to see my medical records i believe can take 3 weeks plus, thanks.

I was in your position in Nov 2010 - I am now 66, on HRM and HRC indefinitely, with Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis. I had a DLA80 sent me asking for its return in 3 wks. I gave the DWP a ring and a lovely young man told me not to worry and to send it in as soon as I could. They sent a Dr to give me a medical and within two weeks after that I had the reply and my DLA remained unchanged.

Try not to worry, and Good Luck!

Hi Libra

Very good news. However, its not the same for everyone, who dont have the same experience.

As we're on the subjest of renewals, here's a link to the B&W guide FAQ -

When should I send my renewal form back?

But Pastit26 is having a REVIEW and not a renewal.

I had a totally different experience while completing my renewal in May 2008. My 92 yr old mother was in her last days in hospital and I rang the DWP to request extra time - this was REFUSED. A few days later my Mum passed way - I rang again explaining the situation, once again the cold-hearted person I spoke to refused and said that if I didn't return my renewal on time, I would have to begin a new application! I, somehow managed to send off my renewal on the very last day. I went to the PO, and the postmistress kept the postman collecting the mail waiting while she processed my application envelope as I wanted it sent recorded delivery - it was now 5.20pm!

So there is a difference between how they deal with a REVIEW and a RENEWAL.

Hi Libra

I was sorry to learn of your experience.

Regards DLA. A review or reconsideration can be requested if a claimant wishes to have their award changed.

There's a possibilty that when asking for a claim to be looked at again, the whole of a current award could be changed or the award could be lost entirely, or a lower amount awarded.

If DLA has been refused, its suggested that a claimant asks for an appeal, as the award will be reconsidered in any case, and if not changed, sent to appeal.

A renewal of DLA is when a claimants current award is about to run out. Many awards are time limited, lifetime awards are no longer given. Indefinte awards can also be reviewed at any time, but randomly after 12 months.

When a renewing DLA, its suggested that a complete DLA form is completed fully, as this will be treated basically as a new claim.

DLA components are awarded on the basis that a claimant needs help from someone else (the needs arising) and not (generally) on a Medical Condition alone.

I hope this clarifies the things.

Kind regards

Michael
