Hi
We had the initial phone call from the DWP office in Bangor the other day, to get my partner's details and to inform her of their intention to send an ESA50, to migrate from IB to ESA, I took most of the call as She can't do Telephones, so I went through the call, and then at the end the chap said that to claim Child Tax Credit, as I believe this is now separate from ESA......He then asked if we would like his office to fill out the claim form for the Child Tax Credit, as they had all the details and that it would be easier for us if they did that...........Anyway, I said OK, but could he let me have the number of the relative Child Tax Credit office just in case I need to clarify anything with them, and let it be known that I was somewhat confused as to why they would want to do it for us, and that I was not sure about it.
Is this Normal DWP practice ?, and any advice would be really helpful

It does sound unusually helpful for the DWP, but I guess it can happen, some of their staff do genuinely want to help claimants
I'm afraid we do not advise on Tax Credits, so I can't offer any help on this, other than to point you at the information on the DirectGov site.

As this will have financial implications for you, I would get advice from your local CAB or Welfare Rights.
