ESA and a Private Pension was created by Poppy
Hi there, Can anyone help or advise me on what is the best thing to do. I have been dismissed from my employment on ill health after 3 years of on and off sick due to mental health problems after an serious assault. I have applied for ESA and also I am about to apply for work teachers pension which if I am successful will be about 2,500 a year £48 p/w. My GP and psychiatrist have both stated in the ill health pension form that I am permamently not fit to work. I am hoping to be put in the support group.

My question is should I include a copy of this medical ill health pension form in the ESA50 01/13 limited capability to work questionaire or should I just wait until I know what the outcome is of my pension.

Hi Karen and welcome to B+W

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Firstly, I notice that your username might be your real name. Many people prefer to use an alias to maintan some anonymity as this is a public forum. If you would like to change your username, the following FAQ tells you how

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I was dismissed from my employment on medical grounds and took my pension just over 1 year ago, so I understand how hard it is :( Accessing the Support Group of ESA has nothing to do with being unabe to work again and everything to do with meeting specific descriptors

Qualifying for the Support Group

Qualifying for the WRAG

It certainly won't hurt to include the medical report from your pension provider, but you should concentrate mainly on showing which descriptors apply to you. If you have evidence referring to this, all the better.

Occupational pensions can affect the amount of contributary ESA paid, but the first £85 per week is disregarded so this should not affect you. It would be counted if you need to apply for income related benefit (after 365 days in the WRAG for instance).

If you have any further questions, please ask them on this thread. If you mark it as a favorite, that will make it easier to find in future :)

I see that you have started another thread/topic with a different query. That is OK, but it would be better to keep everything in one place so that anyone answering has the full picture :)

Thank you so much for your reply, it was so helpful. I have emailed support to change my name and viewed info on ESA. I have also just discovered something called severe Disability Premium. I receive DLA middle care and lower mobility and live alone do you know if this mean that I qualify for this benefit as well.

Thank you

I think you will only be entitled to the premium if you are on income-related ESA. I am sure one of the more experienced mods will correct me if I am wrong :)
