Phew EAS50 is off.Compiled with a stack of your guide papers 3"tall all over the floor!
(the print out costs of them came to around £40!)Hope it gets there what with The Easter Postal strike etc.
What now?
Some say on here you hear nothing even if you are plonked in the support group?
Do they leave phone messages-you said The DWP dont.
If they dont leave a message my phone is permanently switched off except to check messages-what will they do?
How long between message and appointment if necessary?
Whats the slack in prolonging appointment dates-last time I managed to get another one some 4-5 weeks later.
It would be nice if sample address obscured sample letters of the various decision options could be posted on here to clarify what happens?
Many Thanks-Progress-hopefully!

Now that your ESA50 is returned, the next action by ATOS is to see whether an assessment is required?

If they can make a recommendation based on your ESA50 and attachments then they will return your file to the DWP for a Decision to be made, you cannot be found Fit for Work without a face to face taking place.

If an assessment is required, they will initially try to contact you with a date by phone, if they cannot contact you (I believe they try three times), then they will write to you with the information.

It should be about two weeks, but I have seen on other forums, that claimants have been waiting months for an assessment to be scheduled. It is impossible to say how long it will be between an appointment being booked and it happening, other than the fact that you are entitled to seven days notice.

If the appoinment is not convenient then you will need to contact ATOS to re-arrange it, you can only do this once.

Hiya
How long is a piece of string comes to mind with those questions.
From my understanding every area dealing with ESA etc deals with it differently as do those in each dept deal with it differently.
I know there is a written procedure but here we are dealing with ATOS/DWP and obviously it is far to easy for them to read and inwardly digest what they are supposed to do, as easily noticed by results received by many, especially wherby the HP seems to think that limbs grow back and people in wheelchairs with spinal defects can run marathons and the blind have eyes again to see.!!
Call me cynical but I believe we are in the process of being so marginalised we no longer exist to the rest of society and only those working for ATOS/DWP receive an income for work that is fundamentally our money the govt put towards benefits for us in which we no longer seem to receive.

Hi, one thing I do know is that the DWP do leave messages on your answer phone as I had one left for me.

That said even if you phone back you won`t be give any info, only that someone will call you back either that day or before 13.00 the following day.

Hope that helps.

I wish to differ on your information about "stopping your benefit, without having a face-to-face medical"

I am severly disabled with many co-mobidities, I have been receiving Incapacity Benefit for 14 years with the highest rates of both DLA componats. But because of my many disabilities and even though I did infom the DWP & Atos that my ESA50 would be late because I had been to ill to complete and return them in-time, they sent me a letter and confirmed over the phone that they had in-fact ended my claim and I was no longer on their system.

That is a true fact !

Thank You as usual Gordon.
Ha Yes PussycatMum!
One thing Ive found is that each successive written EAS50-if necessary Assessment -becomes easier than the one before as all the already compiled facts are already written down and compiled and simply have to be updated if necessary each time.
If ATOS-DWP do ramp up the frequency of Medicals they are probably simply boxing themselves in to the same old same old facts trotted out again and again by each Claimant.
And as they say 'Practice Makes Perfect'.
I do not see though how having previously found Claimants unfit on the basis of several near identical Medicals there can be any wriggle room by them to alter their decision if the facts are materiallly the same as you say.
Continually asking for them to be repeated seems a bit pointless indeed.
In fact they would possibly even appear negligent if they suddenly found a Claimant fit on the practiclaly same basis as they found them unfit before! Its doesnt add up.
Talk About Shizophrenia! The decision about whether someone is fit for work or not really is very arbitary and subjective on the part of the DWP trying to reduce it to a scientific process
is very experimental and will probably be laughed at in a few decades to come.
By then perhaps there wont be any unemployed as you say
We ARE being stigmatised and marginalised.
"Work makes you free "anybody?
Oh Thanks for revealing to us that a DWP message was left there are obviously local practices
depedning upon location.
