Hi EM,

Just to add,

Maybe Mum could initially approach her current G.P. and Consultant to gain some idea of how supportive they would be with her ESA claim.

i.e. Would they be prepared to provide reports and/or letters of support. Many G.P.'s and HCP's are becoming more reluctant to do this.

This may then help in making a more informed decision.

Hi EM,

I have just come across this post on the rightsnet website which is used by Welfare Rights Officer and Advisers. :

www.rightsnet.org.uk/forums/viewthread/4990/

I obviously cannot comment on the issue queried, but this would make it even more imperative that you seek advice before proceeding, as we have previously advised.

Where to get advice?

&

Advice NI

You could also try putting Welfare Rights/Advice into you internet search engine with your Town/Postcode.

Hi can anyone tell me if there is a difference in the benefit system in NI as opposed to England? Mum seems to think that there is still DLA available in NI. I thought it was standardised?

Emma.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your advice. Sorry I am a total newbie when it comes to organising posts etc. I have had a few days welcome break from the situation as I have been ill! Lol. So mum has had her cab appointment is applying for a debt relief order and has also applied for ESA in northern Ireland and the citizens advice bureau are helping her with . She is happy with everything except that she is worried about leaving her current gp and neuro consultant as it has taken her a long time to build up a relationship with them. She now seems worried about the benefits system here being different to NI also. I get the impression she is having cold feet about coming over now and it does sound like staying in NI is the best thing for her to do at the moment anyway.

Many thanks,
Emma

No worries EM, :)

It would seem that a claimant in receipt of CB ESA in NI, may have to make a fresh claim if moving over to mainland UK.

Please do get expert advice on this issue before deciding how to proceed.

You could refer any adviser to the rightsnet thread that I have posted the link to.

It seemed that the Welfs on rightsnet were unsure themselves.
