Changing from Incapacity & DLA to ESA &PIP was created by dasiwel
Hello please can I ask for some advice. I am so worried I have to complete the dreaded for to change over from Incapacity Benefit & DLA to the new benefits.
I am 42 years of age and suffer from major problems, I have Loeys Dietz Syndrome which affects my connective tissues, joints and heart I am at risk of anerysumns all the time.
I underwent aortic valve repair in 2004 and have been sick ever since, I am currently on DLA higher rate Care and Low Mobility.
I take loads and loads of medication including morphine and am on life long warfarin & antibiotics.
I am currently on the waiting list o have a bypass operation on my heart and major heart surgery to repair my aortic arch and also due to having Severe Pectus Excaviatum I will need to have major reconstructive surgery to repair my chest cage after surgery.
I am so worried about filling in this form as I know they are trying to trick you all the time.
The last time I put in my medical questionair which was about 18 months ago they stopped all my benefits and I had to go to appeal the tribunal went in my favour and as my condition is constanty degenerating I don't see how they can now say that I am fit for work, but I am scared after hearing about other claimants, being told that they can. I use a wheelchair to get out and about which isn't often as I sleep most of the time.
Any advise would be most appreciated. I feel so sick

Hello and welcome to Benefits and Work,
This should help you find your way around the site
Welcome to Benefits and Work
It is not clear from your post whether you are currently undergoing migration from IB to ESA or whether you have been 'invited' to apply for PIP rather than DLA. These are separate processes and the demands of each are different. However, in both cases, the requirement is to look at your care/mobility needs (for PIP) and your capabilities (for ESA) rather than your actual conditions.
The best advice I can give, whichever benefit you are currently applying for, it to make full use of the guides available to members of this site and to go through the forms, one step at a time, with the relevant guide open on the computer at the same time.
If you would come back to this thread and tell us which benefit you are currently applying for, we can point you to the relevant guides.

Yes, this means that you will be migrating from IB to ESA. The first thing you should be aware of is that the criteria for ESA are very different from those for IB.
There are 2 groups of ESA, the Work Related Activity Group and the Support Group
Qualifying for the WRAG
Qualifying for the Support Group
You should fill out your forms with these criteria in mind. You might want to use the PDF version of this form, many people find it makes life easier
Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire
Our ESA guides are here
ESA claims and appeals
these will also be helpful
ESA FAQs
IB/IS/SDA transfer FAQs
There is no need to submit duplicate posts if yours does not appear immediately. Every post here is pre-moderated and it can take a while to appear if there are only a few mods online and/or we are particularly busy.
If you have any further questions, please come back and ask them on this topic/thread as it helps us if everything is kept in one place.

Gosh there is so much to take in I think my brain is going to explode. I am on morphine so that is not helping. Don't think I am going to get through all of this in time its just too much .....
