ESA50 was created by thriftygirl
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum. I am a 47 years old lady who suffers from a rare medical condition for 14 yrs. I am currently receiving DLA and IB. I received an ESA50 2 days ago. I am at present attending a consultant at a hospital 50 miles away. He has currently gone on holiday and won't be back in time to give me a report. I contacted my GP yesterday who is booked out also for the month of July and I am unable to see him within the stated timeframe. I asked him to print any current letters regarding treatment I am currently receiving. There was one letter on my file from the consultant, as I had attended his clinic last year for 6-7 mths last year. and have been attending his clinic this past 3-4 mths for the same thing, but he hasn't sent any up-to-date letter to my GP. He didn't state in his letter why I was attending his clinic, or what treatment I was receiving either. To date I have no information at all to back up my claim regarding my medical condition. I rang the Social Security Office to explain my dilemma, and also asked for an extension to give me time to get the information I required. They told me to send in my ESA50 on time anyway, and to submit any additional reports towards my claim later on. I am worried as I have a very complex rare condition and little is known about it. I have attended many clinics in 14 yrs both privately and through the NHS. My husband currently has to take every Friday off to take me to the hospital 50 miles away, and he also loses his pay. There isn't enough information on my medical file to explain how my medical condition affects me on a daily basis. As a result I am worried I will lose my benefit altogether. I take very strong painkillers every day, one of them being a controlled drug which is morphine based. Surely they could see that I wouldn't be prescribed these for nothing. I would appreciate anybody's help on what I should do. Thanks.

Hi tg,

Welcome to Benefits and Work :)

You should ensure that the ESA50 is returned by the deadline given.

You can still include any relevant medical evidence that you currently have.

Although documented proof of your medical conditions may help, the important issue is to show how the resulting limitations qualify you for an award of ESA in either The WRAG or The SG.

This will only happen if you score at least the minimum 15 points required for WRAG entry, and/or you qualify under at least one of The SG decsriptors.

You can also gain entry to either groups under the exceptional circumstances rules.

The above qualifying criteria is covered in our ESA Claims Guides.

You can always post copy of any fresh evidence that you may obtain to ATOS and The DWP DM, as soon as you have it.
