Will I have to be reassessed for my DLA I am retired and 63 I don't understand the 64 cut off point because women retire at 60 I was granted an indefinite award and the thoughts of having to go through all that trauma again is making me ill

Hi lh,

I am afraid that the Government have stipulated that people who have not reached 65 or over on the day personal independence payment (PIP) was introduced in April 2013 that are already getting Disability Living Allowance (DLA), will be invited to claim PIP.

So the 65 age limit is simply the age that the government have stipulated in legislation.

As you have an Indefinite award of DLA, you should not have to claim PIP until after October 2015. Of course, we do have an election before then.

Just to point out that women's retirement age has already risen to around 62 and will rise to 66 over the next decade. I guess the 'powers that be' have decided to set the PIP age-limit with this in mind. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter whether there is, or is not, any logic behind this decision as we have to jump through their hoops, like it or not! :(

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems
