Indefinate DLA to PIP

I had been awarded Indefinite DLA with a high mobility component. I've received a letter informing me that this will end soon and I've been invited to claim PIP. I must admit it was a shock and a worry, as I'd heard so many horror stories associated with this.

I came across Benefits and Work website, I've found the contents to be an excellent resource and downloaded relevant documentation, which has been a great help, thank you so much. Now I don't feel quite as scared as I did.

I requested medical reports from various sources almost immediately for which I'm still waiting. On your advice I intend to ask for an extension to submit my PIP2 form, which should be posted within a few days of writing this. I'm hoping all the documents should be with me soon in order to send within the extension time limit.

I'm creating a daily living diary, which is quite challenging and I feel intrusive. My question regarding this is: what is the 'Goldilocks' number of weeks for a submitted daily living diary?

I posted my PIP2 form off in May and recently received a phone call regarding a face to face home visit which the caller presumed I was aware about. I explained that I'd not received a letter informing me of this. It seems I'm to have a home visit in a couple of weeks time and I'll receive a letter of confirmation, which I agreed to on the phone.

Is it usual to be offered a face to face home visit without requesting it and so quickly?

I was hoping that my daughter could be with me but she'll be away on holiday that day. What might I expect the assessor to ask me to do?

I was under the impression that the majority of people wait months before receiving an appointment for the the face to face assessment which is usually at a specific location.

I had my home visit this morning, fortunately my daughter got back from her holiday in time to be with me.

The Atos assessor was very nice. But she had an Eastern European accent which I struggled to understand, especially as I have a hearing impairment.

She went through a list of questions, which I found to be a strain on my concentration I often had to ask her to repeat herself and laboured to answer correctly. On occasion my daughter and the Athos woman questioned my obviously misunderstood answer. I found it all to be very tiring and relieved when she had left.

I was anxious for it to end and only after she had gone, I remembered that she had failed to ask me about my heart attack which I hadn't mentioned either, although she did ask about other more recent medical issues. Perhaps it was omitted from her list or she forgot to ask during the confusion. But I thought it might add some weight to my claim if it was included.

I phoned Athos but the automatic answer service didn't offer a relevant option to press, so I rang another number as a redirected option. I eventually spoke to a person and explained that this medical issue was omitted. The lady took my details and informed me that this would be added to the assessment report.

Phew! I'm glad that's over. I just need to wait eight weeks for the result.
