Hello all

Had my assessment recently. I just wanted to relay some notes on the experience.

It went okay as these things go. I forgot to ask questions I had and hand her more supporting evidence. I should have done this at the beginning as after an hour or more of the Spanish Inquisition-I mean assessment-I wasn't able to think clearly. The questions by the HCP were leading to positive answers, incorrect answers as it happens, but I am aware of these things so thought carefully about what she was really asking i.e. which descriptor it related to and then answered accordingly. Even so, it is easy to get caught out.

Which brings me to why I posted. Watch out for the movements you are asked to do at the end of the assessment. By this time, my brain was mush. The first movements are while sitting but then you will be asked to stand to do more movements. Some of you will have done it before. I couldn't do the first thing asked of me. I gave a hollow laugh as my legs were v. painful and my witness said something as well. The HCP said (very loudly) she needed to know why I couldn't do the action. I told her, but after this felt pressured into doing the other movements, all of which I needed support to do. The 'squat' or crouch position is very hard to do(for those with physical/mobility issues). I couldn't believe she was asking me to do this. They make it sound easy, "Like you were going to sit down or on the loo". I leaned both my arms on chair and support to try to do it. I should not have attempted this. It was painful and very tiring trying to do all these movements afterwards but I had no chance to say anything as the assessment was over and she was talking about what happens next.

The HCP emphasized "The decision about your benefit is made by the DWP" i.e. nothing to do with me! ... When we know that their report holds a lot of weight.

Waiting for the decision. Have MR request letter ready. :)

Also, I've just found out that they haven't contacted my GP for PIP.

I will be speaking to my GP this week hopefully. Will pass on notes to them if I can. Should have done this already as it seems they cannot be relied on to do this. How can they make a decision if they've not contacted my doctor? I have other supporting letters but still.....

It's the norm, GPs are rarely contacted.

I've never been asked to squat or crouch before, is this normal to be asked?

It depends whether it is appropriate to the problems you report.

Hi Buddha 3

I had exactly the same thing. I did the upper body movements as my upper body is fine and is actually getting stronger but tried to refuse the lower body ones as I knew they would cause pain. She sweetly bullied me into attempting them and then said I could do them on the medical assessment form. All with the smile on the face of a tiger.

My question to the team is what happens if you refuse to do these physical jerks?
