'soft touch'?? was created by Sooz
Received my report after having my mandatory reconsideration turned down, and one page has handwritten on it 'Soft touch' then 'Decision not reversed' underneath. What does 'soft touch' mean?

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

I've done several searches and I cannot find an explanation of the term, it's not one I have heard used before.

Thanks for replying, and for the heads up, I'll change the name thing :)

I can only assume that it is what it seems to be, ie a comment on what a pushover the DM thinks I will be regarding whether I'm likely to take things further! I'd like to bring that little comment up in my upcoming tribunal, I don't know whether it would be relevant or of interest to the tribunal though. But it's certainly an interesting insight into the DM's thought process!

You can mention the phrase if you wish but a Tribunal panel will only have interest in whether you meet the criteria for an award or not.

I am sorry, I don't normally comment on other people's post, but I am so shocked on the comment "soft touch". It sounds awful and if it means what we are all thinking it does, it is totally disrespectful towards disabled people. Can I recommend you bring this to the attention of your mp, at least it will show them how some in the DWP, are not taking these decisions that can seriously affect people's quality of life seriously.

Good luck with your tribunal

Interesting, that comment. Interesting in that where I live (Andy probably elsewhere) that phrase is used to describe a person who might be easy to obtain money from. I have noticed it is also used by people who are vehemently opposed to welfare benefit payments of any sort. A friend of mine uses 'soft touch Britain' all the time. To me this seems worrying to have it written on a report.
