Thank you Gordon, I’m going with 3e as there have been times when I’m not able to press the door release for the microwave. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Lin777
I too have fibromyalygia. Here is my advice for what it's worth. If you are able - make sure you write on an additional sheet of paper. You cannot show enough evidence in that box.
I answered no - to preparing food because my conditions mean I cannot do it safely or consistently. I gave them specific examples of when I had tried and why it failed, (eg lack of grip because of fibro leading to me dropping a microwave meal and burning myself, loss of grip sensation, amount of pain, loss of concentration (fibro fog and medication, exhaustion etc). fibromyalgia is greatly misunderstood - do not open yourself up to being able to use the microwave when you can't do it safely and consistently. The same will apply to washing and bathing. Personally I never gave them an example of being able to do something, only what I couldn't do and how that impacts on my life Eg not being able to prepare food means I have a poor diet, increasing my exhaustion and confusion (and in my case making my diabetes worse).

Good luck

(I was awarded enhanced for care and mobility ongoing)

Thank you

Linn - poor you. Hang in there. It is challenging and depressing, but you can do this. It is so very different from the old DLA - but don't waste your precious energy worrying about it.

Say 'No' to everything and then explain why and say things like "It is six years since I attempted to prepare a meal. This was a failure as I landed up burning myself which necessitated a visit to A&E. My fibro has deteriorated and I cannot prepare or cook any type of food safely, because of lack of concentration and poor grip." An assessor will ask you who does it - answer - your husband. Remember he can write a letter confirming how much he does - (tell him what you need). If you have a professional who will say that you need a home visit, because of the distress and pain a visit to an assessment centre will cause you - get it. (Don't worry if you haven't.). I've had fibro over 40 years and know where you're coming from. Take care.
