Free, fortnightly PIP, ESA and UC Updates

Over 80,000 claimants and professionals subscribe to the UK's leading source of benefits news.

An inquiry has been prompted by the publication of recent reviews, concerns about the performance of Atos and the new system of challenging decisions by way of Mandatory Reconsideration.

Submissions of no more than 3,000 words are invited from interested organisations and individuals. Select Committees are, however, unable to investigate individual cases.

The deadline for submitting evidence is Friday 21 March 2014.

The Committee is particularly interested to hear views on:

  • Delivery of the WCA by Atos, including steps taken to improve the claimant experience

  • The effectiveness of the WCA in indicating whether claimants are fit for work, especially for those claimants who have mental, progressive or fluctuating illnesses, including comparison with possible alternative models

  • The process and criteria for procuring new providers of the WCA

  • The ESA entitlement decision-making process

  • The reconsideration and appeals process

  • The impact of time-limiting contributory ESA

  • Outcomes for people determined fit for work or assigned to the WRAG or the Support Group

  • The interaction between ESA and Universal Credit implementation

For details on how to how to submit your evidence read the details in full here.

Hi,
I completed an ESA medical form July 2013 and to date, have had no medical or information regarding when this will be, also no increase of benefits.
I am at my wits end on how and why this is taking so long.
Two different individuals have made contact to find out what and why it is taking so long. (1. Disability Adviser from DAC 2. Scheme manager where I live -Anchor Supported Housing) Both were told the same, yes they have my form and all details required, but due to the back log they are unsure when my claim will be dealt with, also that l have to have a medical.

I have an appeal for DLA on Monday 17th Feb 2014 and am so anxious and concerned with not sure if l am going to make the hearing or even feel I can give any information accurately due to depression and anxiety, apart from discussing my mobility issues.

I don't expect l am the only person to have feelings like this, but it is making my illness worse with the stress and anxiety.

What, where, how do l get through these few days leading up to Monday.
