The UK government appears to have become the first country to face a high-level inquiry by a United Nations committee, as a result of “grave or systemic violations” of the rights of disabled people.

The committee has the power to launch an inquiry if it receives “reliable information” that such violations have been committed by a country signed up to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and its optional protocol.

These investigations are conducted “confidentially”, so the UN’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) – which is carrying out the inquiry – has refused to confirm or deny that the UK is being investigated.

But a recording has emerged of a former CRPD member revealing that the inquiry has been launched.

Hi Jim,
Yes, many thanks for your message and also for your kind words -
it is a pity that you are no longer a moderator, but nevertheless, I am sure that all of us on here are very grateful to you for your input. Not in the least, myself, who has been much influenced by all of your valuable information and comments re this terrible Coalition - that is now, so thankfully & slowly, but very gradually, falling apart by the seams.
I really hope that in the future you can continue to supply a lot of (non-media-repo rted!) information and thoughts as to what this non-elected Coalition are actually up to and also the 'legal' or 'non-legal' ramifications of it all. Many thanks again -Paul

Hi all,
Well, there's a surprise!
Just as in our ubiquitous 'Energy Companies' and 'Ofgem' (which is a laugh also!) - Jim Allison has it exactly right - this Committee has no teeth and cannot do anything to rectify this Coalitions rotten policies towards the sick and disabled of this country.
This UN Committee can only 'advise' change but I am sure that the Coalition will carry on regardless, even if they are told of this.
They have their agenda - their so called 'Welfare Reform', the reduction of the so called 'deficit' in Public finances and also and not in the very least to win the next General Election. I hope that the British people can eventually summon up the sense to not have another coalition. If we do, we can say goodbye to all that we know to be dear to us - the NHS would be the first to go - private companies and insurance companies would reign supreme and re the Energy Companies - the laughable 'Ofgem' and all of the other 'regulatory' authorities would be scrapped and you will pay £2000 per year or more for your energy bills.
Universal Credit and PIP will be forced through (even though it is way behind and costing even more millions and millions of pounds to implement) In my own personal opinion it should have all been kept as before.
What a disgrace, and all the time the sick and disabled people of this Country are stressed mindless and being pilloried through no fault of their own. What a total shambles and as for the U.N. - what's the point - they can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Thank you Paul for your kind remarks on this and other News items.

I am no longer a moderator, but will comment on News stories, and post new News items if appropriate.

IF this can be some how reported on by the mainstream media it will be a VERY big embarrassment to the current government.

And therein lies the problem. Tens of thousands of people have died within a few weeks of being declared supposedly fit for work, in fact it's probably into the hundreds of thousands by now. People have been driven into destitution, desperation and even suicide. And yet, most of the media has barely a word to say about it. That doesn't make me very hopeful that they'll have much, if anything, to say about the UN inquiry. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

Like many Committees, the United Nations Committee can only advise, they don't have the power to order the UK, or indeed any country who are members of the UN, to force them to change their policy.

Whilst I agree, IF this can be some how reported on by the mainstream media it will be a VERY big embarrassment to the current government.

No surprises here at all!!

I suggest that people should Google 'Sir Winston Churchill & Eugenics'

'Social Darwinism' why we invented it!

also 'The Biopsychosocial Model' and a lot will be revealed. A lot of the current problems with 'conditionality ' and sanctions come from medicals formulated in the United States by the worlds worst insurance company, which has been fined millions of Dollars and banned from many states. They were allowed in this country, and are now linked with the French firm we all know. If people are not bothered by the way this govt is operating they should be. Even the governing medical bodies of the medical profession have been overuled by the govt and are called 'Negative' if they protest.
WE HAVE PROBLEM!! [sorry about capitals, but this issue is real and will not go away]
